Linda,

found this info on Google.

http://www.drugs.com/mtm/vancomycin.html

When I was in hospital Tuesday I was speaking to theatre nurse who was taking me down and she told me it should only be taken after detailed discussion with doctor as it can have reaaly bad side effects.

Duration of treatment depends on what type of infection it is, where on the body and how severe it is. That's why the guidance cannot be dogmatic on it.

I was on vancomycin for one month. It never phased my problem until the mesh from my hernia surgery was removed, I took 56 tablets of Zyvox 600 mg (28 days worth) and then was on Doxycycline (spelling?) for 5 months. Five hospitalizations, three surgeries, and nine months later I was cured with no MRSA. Pat

I was on it for a total of 4 months alonside Riphampacin (sic). The last 13 weeks were at home 4 hours a day, 2 gms.

No signs of a return at present but my knee is still niggling and of course, I am worried. Th combination of drugs together with the other 8 I take made me feel like hell.
