I had a hystercomy at LMH in 2003 ever since that time I have been hospitalized with gapping open wounds which are constantly draining, cause extreme pain and a volume of other symtons. No one could say exactly what IT was however, IT was resistant to all antibotics. I was discharged with a PICC line to have IV Super anti-boitics administered. The wounds and hospital stays continued. In June 2006 was rushed to LMH in Renal Failure, on life support and in ICU - given last rites -- family came and said goodbye. When I woke up and recovered no one would help. Was discharged from LMH without follow up care; instructions and discharge with a diagnosis of MRSA and renal failure. Here I am 9 months later feeling terrible all the time and have just notice a sore growing in my nose. As you may have guessed am uninsurable - no current insurance and maybe the MRSA coming back in my nose. Can't the LMH hospital be responsible for all the harm they have caused myself and my family NOT to mention the over $500,000.00 of unpaid medical bills and no doctor to see because of no insurance and/or past medical bills. Boy, all I did was trust the hospital to be clean and safe and now I am fighting for my life.

I contracted a staph infection in the joint after knee surgery(it took about 2 weeks to see symptoms)my knee will soon be replaced because of the damage. One year after that my hip broke they said possibly because of the infection I had in my knee. I had surgery to fix that and it never healed so they did a bone graft. Two weeks later it was infected and it was MRSA, they took all the hardware out, cleaned it out, and put a spacer in with antibiotic and I was on IV antibiotic for 6 weeks and I just had my hip replaced in November 2006. I still feel very tired, very sore and stiff with limited range of motion, but I guess better than when I had the infection.

I caught MRSA from a friends house while getting a tattoo on my leg. The tatto equipment was sterile I made sure of that still in the sterile packages not opened yet. I didnt know that the persons house I was had MRSA. She didnt say a thing. The Dr. said even if I didnt have direct contact with her the enviroment I was in wasnt sterile and that is how I got it. I took two weeks of anti-bodies two different kinds. I felt a little better but 1 week later I developed a sore in my genital area and within two days it went from the size of a pea to the size of a cucumber. I was hospitalize for a week and then went home with IV anti-bodies. Since then I have had weakness in my legs and arms. I have had headaches and I have really bad nerve problems in my legs and arms. I was wanting to know if anyone has had these problems or know anyone you has. I am also a type 2 diabetic so that is why my infection was really bad

I have had mrsa infections off and on for 3 yrs. My children have also been suffering with the infectios also. My youngest was hospitalized at 2yrs old. I wanted to know the aftermath of having this also. Can it affect body organs I can't seem to get any answers from any doctors. I also have had surgery to remove a pin in my foot because they thought it was the source. I fell hopeless and feel I have no faith in our health systoms. At one time I had it in my lyph nodes and at the time my doctors basicly told me I was over reacting and wished she would have never cultered me. I was so sick for weeks. Of course I no longer have that doctor and reported her. I wish this would all end. Is Iv med the only way to resolve this

I suffer constant pain in my abdomen much like a stitch, sometimes its just like a stitch sometimes it's like someone just stuck me with a samurai sword.
I had MRSA after an operation to remove my fallopin tube after an ectopic pregnancy.
The hospital finally admitted that i will always be in pain due to the damage MRSA caused to my internal organs!
Great eh!

I got my MRSA infection in January 2007 after a hip replacement. I got very sick in March and they had to remove the ball and socket and clean out the abscesses that had formed. I did 6 weeks of IV therapy using Zyvox (I cannot take Vancomycin). Approximately 25 days later, I started to get sick again. It started with leg pain, fever, chills and a lot of sweating. I have NO enery and find taking a shower and just doing light housework is almost impossible. My sweats are so bad, that I actually sweat WHILE showering!

I don't think I'll ever get over this. I feel I'll be on IV therapy until I've used every antibiotic my system can stand. I am currently on Cubicin for an indeterminate time. Its very frustrating. I was experiencing diarrhea and nausea while on Zyvox. Its a very potent drug and one I cannot take for long periods.

I suggest you take you temperature at LEAST 4 times a day and keep a log. If you notice low grade fevers starting, IMMEDIATELY tell your doctor. He can run blood tests. The white counts can be deceiving, however the sed rates tell the tale. Make a lot of noise if you have to. Its you life, after all.

I just re-read my post. My first surgery was actually in February 2007. This is important because MRSA seems to recur about 30 days after surgery or after IV infusions cease. At least that's been my experience and that of many others in the States.

Dear Ellen
Its not uncommon for people who have had MRSA to experience ongoing problems, there has been very little research on the after effects of MRSA, but one of our survivors will be taking part in a case study which may see the beginnings of some acceptance by the medical profession that there are indeed lasting effects, I do hope you can get some help from your GP regarding the pain you describe, but I would insist that it is investigated thoroughly as the GP should be looking for the cause of the pain.

Prescilla, Nancy is right you do need to make a noise and ask questions if you are concerned. Vancomycin helped my mum, so there are still drugs out there that can treat MRSA, but you do need to make sure any anxieties are raised with the medics. Don't be afraid to ask questions, think about all your concerns and write them down so that you can go prepared, tick them off as you go, it is easy to sit and listen to a lot of information and come away without your questions answered - been there myself.

Nancy, Tom has posted on here regarding the antibiotics he was given, I think its on another thread. It was Linezolid and was a life-saver for him. There are side-effects with all of these drugs, so it does need to be monitored, and Steph has posted on here about the reoccurrence of MRSA, she works in microbiology and has acknowledged that MRSA can remain in the body once you have had the infection, so your advice about taking the temperature is something I think I would do too.

Zyvox and Linezolid are the same medication. Its hard to take over the long haul. I'm hoping that the Cubicin can keep the symptoms in check, for I've had no real problems thus far. I am seriously thinking about talking to an alternative medicine doctor about massive vitamin C infusion. There is one locally, about 30 minutes from here. I assume my insurance company will oppose this, however, so I don't know whether or not I can afford it. Life is getting harder every day.

I have just found out that I have mrsa under my arm. I went to the dr. and he gave me 2 antibotics, told me to wash in hypacleanse and put cream up my nose. I did that, thought it was over. A month later it came back, he said I must of done something wrong and gave 2 more antibotics and a probotic, cream up my nose and the hypacleanse again. did that, 2 days before my check up I broke out in a rash all over and a horrible yeast infection, no energy, pains in my neck and back, etc. went for my check up. He tells me I still have it and that I had an allegric reactions to the sun. I am concerned that he is not giving me the correct info. Does any of this sounds familiar?

Just read Reply #75. That is actually my post, not Maria's. I haven't a clue how that happened, but I don't want Maria to have to fend questions about my posts. Thanks.

there are after effects from mrsa, i know this from experience, but the doctors will tell you that it is the drugs that make you feel ill or blame another underlying cause. the tiredness and fatique is one of the worst side effects, i have very little energy to do anything

Hi, my uncle is in a hospital in Norway right now. He has been diagnosed with MRSA in his lungs. He underwent two operations in the last four days and is going to have another one today. Can you tell me and my family what the chances of someone are at age 45 to resist MRSA and keep living even with after effects? I see that after effects might be very bad but we want our uncle alive.
Thank you,
